High-frequency Quasi-Periodic Oscillations from GRS 1915+105 in its C state

چکیده
We report the results of a systematic timing analysis of RXTE observations of GRS 1915+105 when the source was in its variability class θ, characterized by alternating soft and hard states on a time scale of a few hundred seconds. The aim was to examine the high-frequency part of the power spectrum in order to confirm the hecto-Hertz Quasi-Periodic Oscillations (QPO) previously reported from observations from mixed variability behaviours. During the hard intervals (corresponding to state C in the classification of Belloni et al., 2000, A&A, 35, 271), we find a significant QPO at a frequency of ∼170 Hz, although much broader (Q∼2) than previously reported. No other significant peak is observed at frequencies >30 Hz. A time-resolved spectral analysis of selected observations shows that the hard intervals from class θ show a stronger and steeper (Γ=2.8-3.0) power-law component than hard intervals from other classes. We discuss these results in the framework of hecto-Hertz QPOs reported from GRS 1915+105 and other black-hole binaries.

0 Correlation among QPO frequencies and Quiescence - state Duration in Black Hole Candidate GRS 1915
We discover a definite correlation between the frequency of the quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) in quiescence states and the duration of the quiescence state of the transient X-ray source GRS 1915+105. We find that while the QPO frequency can be explained with the oscillation of shocks in accretion flows, the switching of burst to quiescence states (and vice versa) and their duration can be e...

From data obtained from the PCA in the 2-11 keV and 11-30.5 keV energy range, GRS 1915+105 is seen during RXTE observations between 1996 May and October on two separate branches in a hardness intensity diagram. On the hard branch, GRS 1915+105 exhibits narrow quasi-periodic oscillations ranging from 0.5 to 6 Hz with ∆ν ν ∼ 0.2. The QPOs are observed over intensities ranging from about 6,000 to ...

We present time-resolved GRS 1915+105 energy and power spectra observed by RXTE, during an episode where the X-ray intensity makes an extreme dip. If the spectra are modeled in terms of disk and power law components, both have large variations. When the inner disk is disrupted, the power law dominates, exhibiting quasi-periodic oscillations with varying frequency until the inner disk returns.

We present a study of the properties of strong 0.8-3.0 Hz quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) that occurred during 1997 Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) observations of the microquasar GRS 1915+105 in the lowhard state. The high count rates allow us to track individual QPO peaks, and we exploit this to develop a QPO folding technique. In contrast to previous QPO studies with RXTE, we emphasize...
